Treasure Valley Dermatology is excited to offer a new and highly effective method for hair restoration and skin rejuvenation. In the past, patients who didn’t respond to common therapies such as Rogaine or oral medications often had to resort to hair transplant procedures to achieve a full head of hair. With our new Selphyl system, we are able to treat your hair loss in as little as 30 minutes, leading to significant hair regrowth without any downtime. Read more about our Selphyl treatment below, and call to make an appointment today to finally get the youthful head of hair you have been waiting for.
What is the Selphyl Hair Restoration Treatment?
The Selphyl system uses the power of Protein Rich Plasma (PRP) to increase hair growth and hair density. PRP comes from the patient’s own blood. It is a concentrated form of the essential nutrients and growth factors needed to stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase. The Selphyl system is engineered to create an even more potent form of PRP known as the Protein-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFP). This ultra-pure form of PRP provides the necessary scaffold to protect the platelets, allowing them to release their essential growth factors for a longer period of time. This means more hair growth for you than standard PRP preparations. Selphyl PRFM has been used safely and effectively in over 150,000 patients.
How is the treatment performed?
A small amount of blood is collected from the patient. The blood is then prepared with the proprietary Selphyl system to create the PRP component which naturally contains a large amount of growth factors. The prepared solution is then re-injected into the patient’s scalp in areas that are experiencing hair loss or thinning.
How many treatments are needed?
Typical treatment consists of an initial series of three monthly treatments, followed by maintenance treatments approximately every 3 to 6 months.
Does PRP treatment hurt?
In order to generate the PRP/PRFM a blood draw is required. This involves a small needlestick with our medical assistants, or nurse who are excellent phlebotomists. We are able to minimize the discomfort involved with administering the PRFM back to the patient by using topical numbing, local anesthesia, and distraction techniques. Our goal is to provide you with a comfortable and effective treatment.
Who is a good candidate for the treatment?
Anyone seeking increased hair due to hair loss is potentially a candidate. Certain types of hair loss will respond more readily than others. A consultation can help determine if you are a good candidate for treatment.
How long do the results last?
The results of the treatment are not permanent. Without maintenance treatments, hair density will eventually return to baseline (pre-treatment levels). However, results can be actively maintained with continued treatments every 3-6 months.
What other areas can be treated?
Hair restorative injections can also be used on the eyebrows to help improve hair density, a common issue for many of our patients.
Additionally, PRP/PRFM can be combined with other treatments such as microneedling to augment your results.
